What is Air Spading?
Air spading is a method of excavating soil without damaging infrastructure. Compressed air is used to dislodge the soil as it moves at approximately 1200 mph. The air is non-damaging and can expose roots, buried cables, pipes or other utilities. It can expose the root system of a tree in order to diagnose problems with the tree, or it can simply aerate the soil, so that less compacted soil can be added. This is considered a less damaging way to provide vertical mulching.
Why would a New Urban Forestry customer want to air-spade?
- To help diagnose a problem in the roots that might potentially save a diseased tree.
- To provide vertical mulching around trees and shrubs to promote healthy plants.
- To expose existing utilities for home construction projects without damaging healthy trees.
- To reduce soil compaction.
These are just some of the ways that air spading can help your property.
